South Seas Island Resort, Captiva Island FL

When I arrived on King’s Crown Lawn at the South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island FL, I could not help but be amazed by the beautiful set up for the wedding of Jennifer and John. Floral Artistry did an awesome job! I was excited to find out the two end pieces were going to be a surprise for the Bride!

Kings Crown Lawn weddingSeaside Strings was there under the auspices of Thank You For the Dance Entertainment to perform the wedding ceremony music. Amy Morgan was our contact and Kehrin Hassan of Jet Set Wed was the Wedding Coordinator.

Jennifer was wonderful to work with and very organized. She knew exactly what she wanted and had obviously taken great care in choosing the music. We began prelude music at 3:45 . It was a gorgeous day and guests were arriving early to enjoy the sunshine. Here was the playlist:

Vultures, John Mayer ( special request)

Message in a Bottle, Sting ( special request)

Best Day of My Life, American Authors

I’m Yours, Jason Mraz

Island in the Sun, Weezer

Pompeii, Bastille

Here Comes the Sun, The Beatles

At 4:20, we got the signal that they were ready to begin. Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring was played for the Entrance of the Parents of the Groom and the Entrance of the Officiate, Dr. James Berger. Home by Edward Sharpe and the magnetic Zeros was chosen for the Entrance of the Groom, 3 Groomsmen, 2 Bridesmaids and the Aunt of the Bride pulling a wagon with the Flower Girl and Ring Bearer ( in the form of 2 very cute King Cavalier Spaniels!)

Ring Bearer and Flower Girl

Jennifer chose the Pachelbel Canon in D for her Entrance. The couple performed a sand ceremony within the service and we played All of Me by John Legend as Dr. Berger explained to everyone the significance of this. When the couple were introduced for the first time, we played Better Together by Jack Johnson for the Recessional. As guests moved on to the reception area, we played Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat.

Jennifer was such a happy bride. I am so glad everything went perfect for her! Congrats to the newlyweds!

South Seas Plantation, Captiva

We always enjoy working with Amy Morgan of Thank You for the Dance Entertainment! On Sunday, October 11th,  the Seaside String Trio provided wedding ceremony music and cocktail hour music for Vanessa’s wedding at the South Seas Plantation Resort.  The event was held on King’s Crown Lawn. It was a beautiful afternoon. The only drawback was we were close to the pool area and the loud music there was distracting during the ceremony.

wedding at South SeasVanessa knew exactly what music she wanted even before seeing our repertoire list. Starlight by Muse, a special request, was for the Entrance of her Wedding Party. A Thousand Years by Christina Perri was the music for her entrance and Viva la Vida by Coldplay was the Recessional.

After looking over our lists, Vanessa chose these songs for prelude: Unconditionally by Katy Perry; You’re Beautiful by James Blunt; Take My Breath Away from Top Gun; Happy by Pharrell Williams; The Prayer by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli; Paradise by Coldplay, She’s Always a Woman by Billy Joel and Just a Kiss Goodnight by Lady Antebellum.

We moved to the porch for the cocktail hour while guest mingled on the on King's Crown LawnVanessa chose a lot of our favorites for cocktail hour: Everything by Michael Buble; Stand By Me by Ben E.  King; Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffet; Just Like Heaven by The Cure; Radioactive by Imagine Dragons; Good Life by One Republic; I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith; Wake Me Up by Avicii; The Scientist by Coldplay; Music of the Night from Phantom; Someone Like You by Adele; All of Me by John Legend; and Sweet Child O’ Mine by Gun’s N Roses. We appreciated the Mother of the Bride coming up to tell us how much she enjoyed our music!

South Seas Plantation, Captiva Island

It was hard to believe it was a July evening when we arrived at South Seas Plantation. Allie and Robert were getting married on the Sunset Cove and the weather was just spectacular. The Seaside String Trio was there to provide the ceremony music on this Monday evening under the auspices of  Thank You for the Dance Entertainment. We met Amy Morgan at King’s Crown and she drove us over to the ceremony site which was on the beach adjacent to the golf course. What a lovely spot and private too. Sebrie Images Photography was on hand to photograph the event.

We began prelude music at 6:15 when the bus brought the guests over to the beach. Allie had requested popular songs and she was a big fan of Journey, the Beatles and Frank Sinatra.  On our playlist were Can’t Help Falling in Love; The Way You Look Tonight; All You Need is Love; Don’t Stop Believin’; Here Comes the Sun, Come Fly With Me and Open Arms.

It was all traditional music for the ceremony. A Grandmother and 2 Mothers were seated to Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring; Dr Dan Lamey, Officiate, led the wedding party, which consisted of 3 Bridesmaids and Groomsmen and a Ring bearer and Flower Girl, to the Canon in D by Pachelbel. Our Bride was escorted by her Dad to the Bridal Chorus. During the ceremony, the couple had the Tying of the Knot and we played the Israel K version of Over the Rainbow. As the guests cheered on the newlyweds, we played the Wedding March for the recessional.

As the guests boarded the bus to take them to the reception, we finished with I’ll Follow the Sun. Darn, we did not have time to play another Journey song that I had arranged for them: Faithfully!

Allie looked absolutely radiant. We wish all the best for this wonderful couple!

South Seas Island Resort

South Seas Island Resort is located at the very tip of Captiva Island. When you get married on the beach there, you have the golf course on one side and the gulf on the other. With a beautiful sunny sky and gentle breeze, it was perfect for the wedding of our couple, Richard and Sarah. This wedding had an international flavor as many guests were from England or Canada.

This evening it was the Seaside String Trio performing. I was joined by my colleagues Susan Sikuta, violinist and Diane Coffman, cellist. I completed the trio on viola. One of the guests kindly took this picture of us as we prepared to start the prelude.

All the guests were there on the beach when we arrived with Amy Morgan of Thank You for the Dance Entertainment. She is the in-house entertainment coordinator at South Seas and made all the arrangements for us.

We only played one prelude piece and they were ready to begin. Richard and Sarah had chosen Bach, Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring for the Seating of the Mothers and the Entrance of her Bridesmaids and Flower Girl. Once they were in place, we changed to play the Pachelbel Canon for Sarah’s Entrance. It was an emotional moment as she kissed her family before Dr. Dan Lamey began the ceremony. Dr. Lamey is always able to put everyone in a celebratory mood and get all the guests involved in the proceedings. Once the vows and rings had been exchanged, it was time for the sand ceremony. We chose to play the Gluck Minuet, a light airy piece, that is a nice choice for this moment.

For the Recessional, the couple requested Bittersweet Symphony, which later got a thumbs up from Nick Adams, photographer who is also from England. I have seen him several times when I have events on Sanibel/Captiva and I know he enjoys anything by the Beatles too. So did our couple. After the Ceremony, Amy drove us back to King’s Crown for the Cocktail Reception and a Beatles medley was first on our playlist.

We performed a mix of music and other popular song special requests included My Girl, Oh, Pretty Woman and Stand By Me. We ended our portion of the evening with What a Wonderful World. Best wishes to all!
