It was still a bit hot in Naples, FL on this October Sunday but with no rain to worry about, it was ideal day for the marriage celebration of Emily and Joseph. There was a gentle breeze so the water was calm and the beach was not very crowded here at the La Playa Beach Resort. This was a destination wedding for the Texas couple. The Seaside Strings Violin and Cello Duo was chosen to provide the wedding ceremony and cocktail reception music. The 5:30 pm ceremony was held on the beach followed by the cocktail hour on the gulf lawn.
Joined by cellist Julie Cornwall, we began to play prelude music 30 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony. The wedding planner was Roxanne of Party Rox, and the Officiate was Reverend Kathryn Schillreff of St. Monica’s Episcopal Church. It was great to see our friend Emma of Emma Burdis Photography on hand to capture the event.
Emily chose Handel’s Air, Purcell’s Rondeau, Delibes Flower Duet and Schubert’s Ave Maria for the prelude. I had a great view of the lawn so when I saw the wedding party approach the beach, we quickly switched to the Bach Air, the music chosen for the Seating of the Grandparents and Mothers. As the Bridesmaids and Groomsmen made their way down the aisle, we played Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring. Emily chose the traditional Bridal Chorus by Wagner for her entrance music.
The Officiate began with a prayer, two readings were given, the Gospel spoken, followed by the Homily. The Marriage Rite continued with the vows spoken and the exchange of rings. We then played a shortened version of The Prayer as a musical interlude. With the kiss as our cue, we played Mendelssohn’s Wedding March for the Recessional. As the couple walked down the aisle, the guests tossed small beach balls into the air and shouted “Hooray”. While the guests moved on to the reception area, we played Spring by Vivaldi.
It was all popular music for the reception. Selections chosen by the couple included Over the Rainbow, How Sweet It is, When I’m 64, Can’t Help Falling in Love, All of Me, Oklahoma, Wonderful Tonight, You Raise Me Up, Lucky, Make You Feel My Love, Wagon Wheel, I Won’t Give Up, This Will Be, I’ve Got the World on a String, Moondance, and we ended with What a Wonderful World just as the sun was setting.
Thanks so much to Emily and Joseph for having us! It was an honor to be a part of their big day!
