Morning weddings are a nice change of pace. Our wedding today for Vikki and Rob was at the La Playa Resort on the gulf lawn. This was a destination wedding for the couple from Maryland. We had a couple of days of very lousy weather so I was glad that the sun had returned along with blue skies. So although the temperature was cool ( around 58), it was a beautiful morning with just a slight breeze. Ceremony was set for 10:30 am.
When I arrived, Julie from the resort was putting final touches on the set up. I saw that Kevin from Botanicals on the Gulf had already installed his beautiful arrangements on the arbor. I am soon joined by cellist Diane and so the Seaside Strings Violin and Cello duo is set to provide the wedding ceremony music and continue through the cocktail hour.
When the guests began to arrive at 10:15 , we began to play classical music for the prelude. Keeping it lively, we played selections by Mouret, Handel, Corelli and Tartini. Vikki had decided to have the mothers seated during the prelude instead of a formal entrance and we just happened to be playing the Handel Air when they came out. As they took their seats, I saw the Officiant, Bob Mitchell of A Beautiful Florida Wedding, ready to lead the wedding party onto the lawn area. Alongside him came Rob followed by Vikki’s son and daughter. Te Deum by Charpentier was the music chosen for their entrance. As we changed to the Pachelbel Canon, Bob invited the guests to rise to welcome Vikki.
After the beautiful ceremony , we played Handel’s Le Rejouissance as the newly married couple walked down the aisle to the applause of their guests. As pictures were being taken and the guests were enjoying the cocktail reception, we performed a mix of music. I had selected the classical pieces with Vikki’s approval and she had selected the popular songs she wished us to play. Among the selections were several Strauss Waltzes, Don’t Stop Believin’, Fascination, Wonderful Tonight, When a Man Loves a Woman, Delibes Flower Duet, Lucky, Albeniz Tango, Have I Told You Lately, Minuet ( Dance of the Blessed Spirits) by Gluck, Way You Look Tonight, Someone to Watch Over Me, Fly Me to the Moon and It Had to Be You. As we began to pack up to leave, several guests stopped by to say how much they enjoyed our music. And I was thrilled when Vikki came by so I could meet her and told us how pleased she was too. It made my day to hear this! It was indeed a pleasure to play for such an appreciative group!
Our very best wishes and congratulations to Vikki and Rob!
