It was an absolutely beautiful evening on this Thanksgiving weekend for a wedding in Naples Florida. Seagulls lined the beach as if they were guests. This beach wedding for Mary and James was at 2nd Avenue South in Naples, a location favored by the locals. On my way in I met a future bride, who grew up near here, planning to have her wedding at this same location in 2014!
When I arrived, Donna of Niche Event Rentals was finishing up with the site. One last sweep of the aisle and all was ready. It looked beautiful!
I was joined by colleagues Joan Stewart and Cathy Pflieger, violinists and Diane Coffman, cellist. I completed the group as the violist as the Seaside String Quartet performed for the wedding ceremony. Dorothy of Unity of Naples was on hand to coordinate and Richard Rodgers, the Pastor at Unity served as the Officiant.
We were scheduled to begin prelude music twenty minutes prior to the start of the ceremony since the guests were coming by trolley from the Bellasera Hotel. All worked perfectly so at the appointed time, the guests began to arrive and we began to play the music selected by the couple. Classical music was preferred and we performed Bach, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Clarke, Trumpet Voluntary, Mozart Divertimento in D, Handel Aria, Schubert Ave Maria.. Since there was a delay, we continued with Handel’s Entrance of the Queen of Sheba, Delibes, Flower Duet, movements from Handel’s Water Music Suite. Bach’s Anna’s Minuet , and the Mouret , Rondeau . Pastor Rodgers and James came onto the beach as we were playing this so the Processional was ready to begin. As we played the Air from the Water Music Suite, the daughters processed in their lovely orange dresses. Pastor Rodgers invited all to stand and we played the Bridal Chorus as Mary made her entrance. After the couple presented the daughters with a special gift and rings were exchanged, Pastor Rodgers declared them husband and wife. Upon the introductions, we performed La Rejouissance as the exit music. As the guests departed , we finished with Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto #3.
As the couple strolled down the beach for pictures and the seagulls took flight, our work came to an end. It was going to be a lovely sunset.
Best wishes to Mary and James! They do not know this but we now share the same anniversary date.
