La Playa Beach Resort was the site of our destination wedding on this November evening. Our couple from Boston, Kelly and Stephen, chose the Seaside String Trio to provide the live music for their wedding ceremony and cocktail reception.
When I arrived on the gulf lawn, Jenny and Sarah of Lyfe of the Party were finishing up their work. Everything looked beautiful and there was an air of excitement around the resort. The resort was full of guests and there was even another wedding happening on the north side.
I was soon joined by my colleagues Joan Stewart on violin and Julie Cornwall on cello. It was a bit cloudy and breezy as a cold front must be approaching but at this time of year we have no worries about the weather. Jacqui of Side By Side Weddings soon came by to check with us. She and her mom, Kathie, are always a pleasure to work with.
All my preparations for this day had been with the Groom, Stephen. He was wonderful to work with. If he did not know the answer to one of my questions, he quickly got back to me with the answer. He and Kelly decided on classical music for the prelude and pops music for the reception. As the guests appeared, we began to play selections by Handel, Bach and Mozart.
With the signal from Jacqui, we began to play the Pachelbel Canon for the Seating of the Mothers, the Entrance of Suzi Freeman, the Officiant, Stephen and his Groomsmen. Following them, came the 5 Bridesmaids. I have to say at this point as I was playing, I could feel one of my strings unravel and slip out of tune perhaps due to the approaching cold front and the barometric pressure or something. Then two more strings slipped. This had never happened before! And, this was at the worst possible time! I quickly stopped and quietly re-tuned my strings. Joan and Julie kept playing so hopefully no one noticed. The great thing about the Canon is, I was able to come back in and as the last Bridesmaid took her place,we came to a nice ending. Now for the fanfare to Bridal Chorus to announce the Entrance of our Bride, Kelly. After 2 beautiful readings, the exchange of vows and rings, we began to play the Wedding March for the Recessional. As guests moved to the reception area just to our right, we played the Handel, Le Rejouisaance.
For the reception, Kelly and Stephen chose all the music and as I mentioned before, they chose popular songs. And they made great choices as guests commented that they really enjoyed the music. Among the selections were All I Want is You, At Last, Can’t Help Falling in Love, Come Away With Me, Con te Partiro, God Only Knows, Here Comes the Sun, How Deep is Your Love, How Sweet it is , Into the Mystic, I Say a Little Prayer, Just Like Heaven, Let’s Do It (Let’s Fall in Love), Let’s Stay Together, Moon River, Right Here Waiting, Signed Sealed Delivered I’m Yours, What a Wonderful World, and You’re the First the Last My Everything. Just as we were playing our last selection, we got the signal to wind it up as they wanted folks to move on the dinner. Stephen stopped by to say hello. It was such a pleasure to meet him after all our correspondence. As they say, it was the icing on the cake.
All our best wishes to the couple, Kelly and Stephen. We hope you and your guests enjoyed your time in Naples!
